Denver's Neighborhood Sidewalk Repair Program
Many of our neighborhoods have dangerous sidewalks. Hundreds if not thousands of complaints are filed with the City of Denver every year. These complaints are sometimes unfortunate events such as trips and falls that result in very serious injuries such as concussions and broken bones. To combat this, in 2018 The City of Denver started the City Sidewalk Program which breaks up the City into different zones. A City Inspector assigned to these zones will go area by area requiring homeowners and business owners alike to replace the hazardous sidewalks adjacent to their property.
The goal of this program Include:
-Making sidewalk accessibility safe to everyone who uses these sidewalks.
-Addressing uneven, cracked, deteriorated and steep sidewalks that don’t meet ADA requirements.
-Notifying and providing information to homeowners on how to bring their sidewalk up to code.
-Providing financial assistance (to those who qualify), to fix any sidewalk hazards on your property.
What are my options if I have a hazardous sidewalk?
If you haven’t received a citation from the City of Denver, there are a couple benefits to replacing your Hazardous Concrete Sidewalk proactively before the City’s Sidewalk program is in your neighborhood. These Benefits include: (1) The City of Denver issues discounted permit costs for homeowners proactively addressing any sidewalks issues adjacent to their property. (2) An issued citation gives you 45 days to replace or repair your sidewalk and depending on the time of year, this may not give you the sufficient time needed to consult with a Professional Sidewalk Contractor for your project.
